Leaf Impressions Art

Picture

Step 1- Nature Walk

Take a nature walk with your family during Fall.  Study the trees that you pass by, paying close attention to their trunks and their leaves.

Select 5 different kinds of leaves that have fallen from the trees onto the ground.

Step 2- Decide on a Layout Design

Using a table or the ground, lay out your leaves until you find a pattern that you like..

Step 3- Cover and Color

Lay your paper on top, turn your crayons on their sides (make sure any paper wrapping is removed) and gently color on top of the paper as it is covering the leaves.

The details of the leaves will appear on the paper above the leaves.  Try to color each leaf with a different colored crayon.

This video will show you more about how to do it.  Please ignore the end of the video where each leaf is cut out.  Try to have all of your leaves colored on the same paper.

It is okay if the leaves and their colors touch each other or overlap.  You are having fun making art!

Another art project with leaves involves arranging them into a design (like this deer) and gluing the leaves into place.  Beautiful!
